A French native, I first came to the United States in 1999 to finish my French “Maitrise” degree in English history, language, and literature as an exchange student. After graduation, I decided to extend my stay and taught for a few months in Texas. In 2001, I moved to sunny California and started a Masters’ degree in Communication, which opened my eyes to academia and to the world of social science research. My diversely cultural, social, and linguistic backgrounds have enabled me to find profound interest in doing research applied to talk as a vehicle for social action. After graduating in 2003, I taught a variety of subjects at the community college level in San Diego. Soon, I felt the urge to keep on expanding and refining my knowledge, and got accepted into the PhD program in Applied Linguistics and T.E.S.L. at UCLA in 2004. Since I started, I have been enjoying conducting research projects and teaching in various departments.
For the past few years, I have been actively working on acquiring strong and diverse pedagogical experiences. I have developed intense dedication and enthusiasm toward teaching. I deeply enjoy sharing my knowledge and devotion, while learning significantly from the students in return, regardless of the subject I teach. I envision the classroom as a theater, in which students should feel free to express their opinions in a comfortable and creative environment.
In the future, I hope to be able to combine my love for traveling and teaching, so as to enrich my research and teaching with experiences learned from interacting with multiple cultures.
